Audition for BSR
This past weekend I attended the Boston Singers Resource annual general audition. My good friend M. Daniel Draper auditioned at this in March and has already been offered a job. I sang the second half of "Che Gelida Manina" from Puccini's La Boheme and it seemed to be well accepted. A number of companies were in attendance, such as Longwood Opera and Opera del West.
That ends the auditions that I have planned for the immediate future. This weekend also marked the 3 month notice until the wedding. I anticipate the next 3 months being very busy as we finish setting up for the wedding and getting the last minute things done. Right now everything is booked, church, reception site, catering and of course the music. Also, I have finished the code for the website. I am considering making the schedule section dynamic and easier to update, but we will see how soon that becomes important. Hopefully very soon. :) - Gregory - Tuesday, April 17, 2007
Website Updates
One of the great things about being a tech person as well as a singer, I can update and run my own website without having to have a generic cookie-cutter singer site. I have finished adding in a contact form that will allow you to e-mail me directly from the website. I have also added some nifty AJAX and DHTML to the photos section for a little more style. I redid the javascript for the site, so that it is more streamlined and less cluttered code-wise. Also, there were a few minor glitches with my template, so some of the images were not loading properly and giving the site a really spotty design.
I have started taking on some voice students also. I posted an ad on Craigslist for students and a few people have found their way to this site, so we will see if that pans out. This past weekends Gala event for the Commonwealth Opera went off without a hitch. Unless a hurricane style New England storm is considered a hitch. I heard a lot of good things from the audience however. They loved the Pearl Fishers duet and the Lakme. The overture from Carmen was a big hit, even with an orchestra missing percussion, horns and a bass. Conductor C. Thomas Brooks, Music Department Chair of Gordon College did a splendid job of filling in by singing the horn part and having toy cymbals played by a doner. My role of Lippo in the Ice Cream Sextet from Weill's Street Scene went well. The hall was fabulous so I took the time to really push into the notes to deliver a bit more of a dramatic sound. The audience loved it and my fellow cast members sang their hearts out. Kudos to them, Jennica Serra, Sarah Tyman, Geoffrey Jones, Dustin Juliano and David Allen. Great job all around. - Gregory - Thursday, April 12, 2007
New Video Clips
I have recently posted some new video clips of my most recent recital. Feel free to browse to them here. I have posted one of the video's below, di Capua's 'O Sole Mio.
This weekend I am singing in Springfield MA at the Commonwealth Opera's Gala Guild Concert. Check back for pictures and video of that next week. - Gregory - Wednesday, April 04, 2007
Moved
Well.. I moved over to my new site. It wasn't as difficult as I thought. A few bugs with templates and such. I will be cleaning out the archive and starting anew I think, but we'll see what happens. Enjoy the new site.
The end is near
I know I haven't posted in quite some time. The blog will be taking new shape soon I think. I'm working on another website right now and am most likely going to move blogging to that one and close this place down. It won't support a blog as of now, so I'm either going to have to code something to do it, or most likely, find some blog software. I'm kinda lazy. :) Peace
